County board looks toward phased-in plan for Danecom
The pace of Danecom discussions has picked up dramatically over the past few weeks, after a long summer lull left it mostly out of sight, out of mind.

The county’s multimillion-dollar project to upgrade its radio communications remains a divisive issue, but the County Board could decide on a preferred new plan as soon as Sept. 16.

Council rejects McGaw shelter demolition, seeks new plan
The McGaw Park shelter will stay standing for now, after bids to demolish the structure and build a new one came in over budget.

The council rejected the bids Aug. 24 because they were over budget, and the Parks Commission has already come up with a different design option.

The VASD survey of district residents last fall asked if the district should spend nearly $200,000 annually to boost programming for gifted and talented kids. In the comments section, more people said schools should increase gifted programming, but many argued there was too much already. Some examples follow:
